"The Mask is an ancient symbol of transcendence and power. It emits an almost eerie force field of latent power and potential; the sense of something deeply mysterious about to reveal itself; a spirit calling up secrets from within - and beyond... The Mask has had a significant role throughout human civilization as a portal into the great mysteries of life and consciousness."

~ Ronda LaRue, Master Mask Maker

Last summer I traveled to California to work with Ronda La Rue, spiritual healer and master mask maker. I had long been drawn to mask making, and although I had never made a life mask, I had made masks on molds. These were fun, but I knew a life mask, one made on my face, would open up depths of experience unlike any other. It was mask making that originally drew me to Ronda.

Making the mask of "She I Am Becoming" (shown above) opened a passageway into self that resonates daily. I hung the mask at the top of my stairs and we commune daily!! I can't avoid her. And sometimes, I simply stand and gaze at her, or watch her gazing at me, calling to me, teaching me... I love this mask. I have made others since and each evokes a very different response in me. There is one that I believe smirks at me. She knows something, that mask does. One day, I'm going to find out exactly what!!!
