A Journey into the Imagination

Second Annual Wisdom House Retreat in the Farmhouse!

A High Energy, Spring Writing Workshop
led by Emily Hanlon

May 2-4, 2008
Wisdom House Retreat Center
Litchfield, Connecticut

Last year's workshop was so inspiring and fun that we decided to make the writing workshop in the farmhouse at Wisdom House Retreat Center an annual event for the first weekend in May. Join us for a weekend of writing, creativity, gorgeous surroundings, fantastic food and community at its best!

"The best part of the weekend for me was drawing on the spirit, passion and energy of the group. And having a forum to read without criticism was wonderful..."

~ Carolyn Rowland, Wisdom House Workshop 2007

This workshop will concentrate on welcoming the unknown into your writing. We will go on a magical mystery tour to find and embrace new characters and to deepen our relationship to characters who already may people our stories.

  • We use the "what ifs" and "what happens nexts" of story telling and other techniques of the short story, novel and fictionalized non-fiction.

  • We explore our creativity through guided imagery, interviewing characters and other techniques Emily has developed to further your stories and access your creative passion.

  • Critiquing is always supportive and inspires you to go deeper and take the risks passionate writing demands.
The workshop is for writers of all levels. If you have been to any of Emily's past workshops, this workshop will build on and deepen the work you have done as well as bring the first-timer into the magical world of the imagination!

Participant Reflections on the Wisdom House Weekend Workshop May 2007

"I've become freer, looser and much more apt to take risks; therefore more open to writing more creatively."
          ~ Audrey Larkin

"I loved the group discussions and I really enjoyed everyone's readings. Such richness, depth and diversity to the stories. I also enjoyed the writing that I did. It is coming easier and I feel I could go anywhere and write about anything."

          ~Lisa Calhoon

"My biggest breakthrough was connecting with other women and feeling like I belonged with other writers."

          ~ Sheila O'Conner

"I came into the workshop that first night a little apprehensive and intimidated. All these women are going to be such great writers," I thought. As the night went on, those feelings disappeared. I began to feel a sudden burst of confidence... A new feeling within me. Suddenly all the hidden creativeness I knew was within me shone through. I could not wait to sit down & write when Emily gave us an exercise to do or a writing prompt.

I also no longer "stress" myself out to write that first novel. Emily's words and teachings showed me that the most important thing is to write because you love to write. And you don't feel complete unless you write, anything, just write because it makes you feel so good to! That novel will be "born" soon enough...

I think this past weekend I finally became friends with my inner writer!"
